With only weeks left in this hockey season, Florida remains in a battle with Carolina for the Southeast Division title and a guaranteed trip to the post-season. Through action on tuesday, the Panthers trail Carolina by five points but have two games in hand on the 'Canes. Two quick ones and they are right in the race. Combine that with the fact that Carolina is only 1-4-1 in their past six games and the return of Pavel Bure is imminent and you have a very promising outlook. In any case it will add some excitement to these final weeks.
If by chance the Panthers can't catch the Hurricanes though, they still have a shot at playoff action by overtaking the Bruins for the eighth and final playoff berth. Florida and Boston both have 13 games remaining on the schedule and Boston holds a 73 to 69 point advantage. The Bruins however have posted a 7-3-1 record in the last eleven so stealing their spot may prove difficult.
