The Kings played .500 hockey these past two weeks, which is sadly an
improvement on their play. But the season is rapidly slipping away
from them, with inconsistent play keeping them out of the playoffs,
trailing the Sharks by four points.
With the Kings having missed out on the Pavel Bure race, their
sights are now turned on Theo Fleury. Fleury would be a Godsend for
this team, both with his aggressive style of play but also with his
great skills. A line with him and Luc Robitaille would be about as
sweet as could be. But will it happen? Sadly, probably not. It
is doubtful that Dave Taylor will be willing to pay the price to
get the spunky runt unless they were able to sign him to a
long-term deal. And with that, the Kings season will probably be
lost.
Glen Murray has been fitted for a brace, and when the brace is ready
he will begin skating again. Expect him to return to the Kings
lineup within a week or two of his skating. He will be the last
major injured Kings' player to return to the lineup, which means that
they will actually have a chance at making the playoffs.
Rob Blake got thrown out of the Sharks game after he came to the
defense of his linemate Mattias Norstrom who was attacked by Brantt
Myhres as Norstrom was leaving the ice. Sure Norstrom had leveled
a Sharks player, but Myhres came over and cold cocked Norstrom with
the butt end of his stick. Blake hops on Myhres to protect
Norstrom and somehow gets a game misconduct for being the third man
in on a fight. That he was the third man in is pretty amazing
considering Norstrom didn't throw a punch and wasn't given a
fighting penalty. Now there might be a chance that Blake could be
suspended for this, which if it happens will just prove how pitiful
that the NHL has become.
Pavel Rosa and Olli Jokinen continue to be swapped out for each
other in the lineup, allowing for Sandy Moger to get his very
important minutes. Nice job Coach Robinson.
