Second Round: Colorado vs Detroitby Michael Menser Dell, Editor-in-Chief Colorado Avalanche (6) vs Detroit Red Wings (1): Detroit won series, 4-0. Not much to say about this series. It was ugly. I (sunshining) hate Detroit.
Even after dropping the first two in Detroit, the Avs could have made it a series with a win in Denver. Forsberg returned for Game Three, but he was playing with tears in both groins. That can't be pleasant. The Wings held on for a 4-3 win, and that was that. Forsberg, Paul Stastny, Wojtek Wolski, and Ryan Smyth all missed Game Four, so at least they were spared the 8-2 humiliation. It had to be the second-most embarrassing defeat in Colorado franchise history, trailing only the 7-0 loss to Detroit in Game Seven of the 2002 Western Conference Finals. That Game Seven collapse cost the Avs a third Cup, as they would have easily destroyed the Hurricanes in the Finals. Aw, I (sunshinin') hate Detroit.
In case anyone still needed an official ceremony, this series was a requiem for a rivalry. It's over. It's all over. The days of Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg are solid gone. It's all about Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk now. Zetterberg had five goals and nine points, while Datsyuk added two goals and eight points. And, yeah, I still hate Detroit.
You can't let your team lose like that. It was 7-1 in the second for Don Knotts' sake! Have some pride! I feel like Charlie Brown at Christmas. Isn't there anyone who knows what this rivalry is all about! (Sunshine) Detroit!
