Points Drill
Contributor: Ace Reporter Jim Iovino
Emphasis: Making use of defense in offensive zone.
Age Level: All
Drill begins with player in right corner (P1), right point (D1) and player in left corner (P2) (see diagram at right).
Description: P1 starts with puck in the corner. P1 skates halfway around faceoff circle and passes to P2, who
is in left faceoff circle. As P1 sets up screen in front of the net, P2 passes to D1 at the point and then charges
the net. D1 takes pass and then cranks a low, hard shot on net. P1 tries to tip shot. P2 stuffs home any rebounds.
The point is to get forwards to use their point men and learn to charge the net for rebounds.
Variations:
Another point man can be added, so D1 could pass to D2 or vice versa. This would get the defensemen to learn to trust
one another along the blue line.
If you want to simplify the drill, just have P1 pass to D1 and have P1 and P2 charge the net for tips and rebounds.
