Five Point Drill
Contributor: Ace Reporter Jim Iovino
Emphasis: Quick, accurate passes and one-time shot.
Age Level: Beginners to intermediate.
Drill begins with player in right corner (P1), right point (P2), left point (P3), left corner (P4) and high slot (P5) (see diagram at right).
Description: P1 starts with puck and makes hard pass to P2. After making pass, P1 skates to P2's position. At same time,
P2 makes hard pass to P3, and so on. When P4 gets the puck, he or she makes pass to P5, who one-times a shot on the goaltender. The next
player in line starts drill again as soon as P1 gets into P2's position on blue line.
Players must keep passes inside zone at blue line. Players also must skate hard from one position to another in order to keep drill
running smoothly.
Variations:
After going through the drill a few times, switch sides so one-timers come from opposite corner.
Have shooters work on snapping shots quickly, or wristing shots to upper corners. Passers can work on banking passes off the boards to teammates.
